hand harvesting

The grapes are hand harvested each year towards the end of March or early April, depending on the growing conditions. In years when the conditions are right the grapes will be left on the vines longer than normal, with the aim of producing riper fruit with greater flavour development and intensity.

Vinoptima is the first vineyard and winery in New Zealand totally dedicated to producing just one wine - Gewurztraminer. Whereas most commercially-driven wineries will aim to produce a consistently regular style from one year to the next, the sole objective at Vinoptima is to produce the best possible wine from each vintage. In this way each vintage of Vinoptima Gewurztraminer is a true reflection of the terroir.

Throughout the growing season Nick Nobilo must draw on his lifetime of winemaking experience to decide the best course of action to take to achieve optimum fruit quality.

The seasonal variation of each vintage is what makes Vinoptima Gewurztraminer unique. This presents a wonderful future opportunity to experience vertical tastings of successive vintages.
